Mouth. Money. Melb PC
I've been thinking about my criticism of Melb PC's leadership, conscious of the fact that for years now I've been frustrated by the group's lack of direction. From time to time I've thought about standing for the committee, but I've told myself that I'm too busy.
This morning I've realised that if I want to see change, I've got to be prepared to be a part of the process. I've got to be in a position to argue my case, convince others, and demonstrate what I firmly believe can be achieved.
So I've sent off an email to the president, Lyn Goodall, expressing my interest in one of the two casual vacancies on committee. If I'm accepted - and I can't see why they'd knock me back - I'll be looking to concentrate on the group's online presence, and possibly its public profile. These are areas in which I have professional expertise.
If my offer is accepted, I'll also be looking for able, enthusiastic helpers. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of them around this blog, so let me know if you're willing to pitch in.

Good luck with your application. I hope you succeed.
I agree with your sentiments about the club. From an outsiders point of view it appears to have become fossilsed and in need of a good shake up. I attempted to join twice but decided my time was better used contributing to causes such as BE where real-time help and contributions are the priority!
You can count on yours truly. Freeware and Linux are my interests.

Good luck with your application and for the sake of the user group I hope you succeed.
I have seen the group start to spiral out of control, especially the magazine which I read each month, the new revamped issue isn't doing much to satisfy me, but I'm trying to stick with it. The group needs a revamp, and you are the person that could be the shining light that the group needs. I am willing to help out wherever needed, especially with business applications and web design and programming.

I have never even considered joining the Melb. PC-Users group, mainly because it didn't seem to be much related to my own interests or needs.
At least part of that is due to the seeming lack of information about the group itself. The only times I have ever seen or heard anything about it was when CW was on 3LO.
My own interests and such expertise as I could offer are in DOS and Linux, but mainly DOS. And in freeware and open source. If the PC Users group ever amounts to anything again, then yes, I would be happy to contribute, but NOT with anything to do with Windows.

I wish you all the best, over the last 24 hours you have been nothing less than prolific on the Bleeding Edge site about this topic, so I guess you will be able to provide much for any efforts allowed toward the Melb PC User Group.
I am actually suprised to hear they are still running, I haven't heard from it for years and living in Melbourne myself, having community contacts with various age groups and new/beginner PC users here I would have recomended it to many had I known, and had it assured me to be a good resource for people needing that sort of support.
I do wish you all the best with your endeavours and I also put my hand up now to contribute and assist.
