Windows Vista SP1 and Server 2008
Microsoft have just announced that Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 have been 'Released to Manufacturing' though due to some problematic drivers in Vista SP1 it won't be available until Mid-March which makes for an interesting read when the Windows Vista team state:-
And through the great work of our hardware partners, we now have 78,000 devices and components supported by Windows Update, up from about 34,000 in November 2006.
After running through 3 Betas of Vista SP1 myself, I completely agree with what Long Zheng states on his blog :-
Having installed SP1 RC Refresh 2 flawlessly, I can vouch for the improved Vista experience even if it’s a un-measurable amount. There is no reason not to install it, and everything you gain is a bonus.
...
Just because a pinhead number of drivers were installed incorrectly, and might take a whole driver reinstall to correct, all the other millions of Vista users have to suffer?

Thanks Ananda,
A bit more time available of late and with some more posts in the pipeline , there is more to come.
The Non-Release of Vista SP1 is causing quite the uproar around the place and considering I/we now have Windows Server 2008 and no matching Vista SP1 codebase as both releases were planned to launch at the same time so that both Server & Client were running the same kernel revision and could be tested together as a pair ready for business deployment this isn't the best of news.
This is starting to become a PR nightmare for Microsoft amongst the IT Professionals and Developers out there as at this point in time all the 'tech' people in IT land will get access to Vista SP1 about the same time as it is released to the public which seriously de-values anyone who pays for a TechNet or MSDN Subscription. The TechNet team are listening though I think there will be much more noise before it quietens down.

The service pack will be good, unfortunately my ASUS Vista laptop decided last weekend that no matter what we do, it refuses to use the wireless network. Maybe the service pack will fix it, but without the network its going to be hard to get the service pack...
From brand new it ran like a dog under Vista, its getting closer and closer to becoming a ubuntu system with every passing day.

Adrian,
Can you plug it in with a cable instead of going wireless?
Also do you know what the Wireless chipset it is and I will have a look at any known issues with that wireless chipset?
