Sex. Sells. See.
For a while there we thought we'd have to turn Bleeding Edge into a beauty blog in order to achieve Wealth Beyond Our Wildest Dreams, but we've been forced to change our minds. Has anyone counted the number of comments on Sam and the City? There's thousands of them. Literally thousands of highly talkative people.
What people really want to share with the blogger these days, is umm, their views on infidelity, how many people they've slept with (or whether one should count), "hooking up", why women cheat, and basically everything that custom once dictated should be shared only with intimate friends. If anyone.
Everyone gets to be an advice columnist to the lovelorn, or share their doubts, uncertainties and innermost secrets. Does this mean they no longer need friends to talk about this stuff with? Or that they get a wider range of responses? That they're more honest and open? Or just boastful? Does it signify a better adjusted society? Or a more prurient one?
We'd welcome your opinion on this, because, we're, well, amazed. And stumped as to what it might mean.

I think people still need friends to talk to about some issues. But the good thing about getting advice from websites is that you can get lots of different advice and yet you still remain anonymous.

Wow, that is impressive.

Personally I think it's due to the overwhelming pressure of political correctness gone wrong. You can't tell a girlfriend she's a ho anymore, she's doin' it for herself and ain't no one going to stop her (except for maybe Oprah).
For the guys, what more do you need than a computer screen with no live camera feed and a made up screen name to bleed your heart out without being afraid that their words can be linked to their egos. (wait, maybe that one applies to the chicks as well)
The internet seems to be the only way you can tell people what you think anymore, any other time you're just being a bitch... or an asshole. Put it on the net and you're an opinionist.

I was involved in a quite heated forum discussion about this sort of thing not too long ago.
it annoys me. a LOT. I'm no prude, but the blatant raunch culture that seems to be infiltrating society just makes me uncomfortable. women are exposing dark deep secrets, acting like they're wild girls and dressing in tiny tiny clothes. some say that they're liberated, and while i'm sure that some are, there are many women embracing this trend because it's the cool thing to do.
the internet is the perfect forum for this sort of thing as there is a level on anonymity about it. you can reveal all sorts of things about yourself with less fear that someone who knows you (like friend) will judge you. that is, of course, if you have a common name and nothing about your story reveals who you are.
i hope it's just a craze and that it will pass.

I don't know what it really says about real life relationships, Charles, but one thing's for sure -- if you have the right topic in a blog, you're guaranteed success. Talent and the quality of postings don't really come into it, sadly.
