Listen Foxtel: It's the ads or us

We've made a unilateral decision. Foxtel can either charge people to watch its programs - that's what you call Pay TV - or it can have commercials. It can't have both.

We cannot adequately express, without using words that should never appear on a family type blog, how irritating it is to be actually PAYING to have someone try to [SHRIEK!!] sell us something. We've decided that the minute the contract runs out, we're giving Foxtel the boot. Les Posen has already turfed them.

Absolutely! I turfed it 12 months ago and can't say I miss it. So many people I know are resentful of not only the ads but the ever increasing charges but do nothing about it. And they are apparently increasing their client base. Go figure!

In Canberra here we get a service called transact. It is like foxtel but not as many channels, and it comes in through fibre instead of sattelite. It includes *all* the free to air channels in digital as well as many extras (including a French Music Channel called MCM TOP) for around $15 a month. I think it is quite good value, and from what I can see, I don't see that many ads on there.

I was about to go digital last year when I realised it was time to dump Foxtel. It wasn't just the ads but the realisation that the longer I subscribed the less there was to watch as the content on most channels is a never ending rotation of repeats.

Heard of SelecTV ? They're offering 20 english channels for $29.95 per month...no contracts, use your own equipment...includes movies and $1 for the first month.

As a satellite parts and equipment supplier, this is great news. If F****L had done this from the start instead of expensive equipment and installation costs, they too would be able to offer something similar.
